Abstract: Recently, we have developed a general framework to design efficient numerical schemes for nonequilibrium models, based on the fundamental structure of the mathematical models. This is based on a simple energy quadratization technique rooted in Onsager`s linear response theory for general nonequilibrium thermodynamics. In this talk, I will review the Onsager principle for nonequilibrium theories and then present a few examples in which unconditionally stable energy stable schemes are developed. Numerical examples will be presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the schemes.
